Jungle Scenes of Henri Rousseau

We had so much fun creating imaginary jungle scenes, inspired by the great Henri Rousseau.  Students assumed that Rousseau must have visited the rainforest several times, and were surprised to learn that he had never traveled to a rainforest in his life!  Rousseau visited botanical gardens and used what he saw there to help him with his lush jungle scenes.  Students focused on creating emphasis to draw the viewer's eye to the most important parts of their compositions, just as Rousseau had done himself.
